This is not strictly necessary, but it’s faster than the standard AFFS and supports larger partitions. You probably want to use the PFS3 file system, and you will need to download the handler for that from. They can also be found on several places on the Internet, as usual DuckDuckGo is your friend. This is still under copyright, and at least the Workbench images can be bought from.

You will need a copy of the Kickstart ROM and Workbench disk images, version 3.0 or 3.1. From what I can tell, the difference seems to be very minor, so it shouldn’t matter. I was using version 4.0.1, although I now see that version 4.3.0 is available. This tutorial uses the WinUAE amiga emulator, which can be found on. Step 1 - Download stuffįirst of all, you will need to download a bunch of software. This tutorial also assumes that you are running Windows, although it should be possible to use pretty much the same procedure with FS-UAE on Linux or Mac. But you will need a Compact Flash card with a capacity of at least 4GB, some kind of CF-IDE adapter (not neccessarily that one) and of course a Compact Flash reader for your computer. I won’t go into the hardware side of this, because there’s really nothing to it. The original video can be found here, along with instructions and download links.

I thought it might be useful because a) I prefer written instructions, and b) it would give me a chance to update and correct the instructions so that they actually work. This time, however, for the benefits of my readers I thought I’d write down the process in a blog post. This one actually had a hard drive, but who knows how long that will keep on working, so I though I’d replace it with a Compact Flash card as well. Now, recently I was generously given an Amiga 1200.

I found a video by Nostalgia Nerd on Youtube, where he goes through the process of installing Classic Workbench and WHDLoad on a Compact Flash card, unfortunately this video is (currently) four years old, and also very… quick? With the help of the comments and some trial and error, I managed to get it working, though. But eventually I though I should try to use WHDLoad, so that I could run more games directly from the hard drive.

That worked fine, and I could install Workbench on the CF card, and use it. It did not have a hard drive, but all Amiga 600 have an IDE port, and you can use a Compact Flash card with a CF-IDE adapter as a hard drive. I understand your point of view about Os, and I'll think I'll go with the 3.1.4.About a year ago, I bought an Amiga 600. I don't know if is it possibile with Mister. I think that I would love to use a "modern" Amiga to write (I'm something like a wanna-be-writer) and maybe to do (basic) email, read news (even on a text browser) and Wikipedia. Last but not the least, I prefer to use the OS that I knew when the Amiga was still alive (this is why I find the Mister amazing) versus the new OS which try to be "compatible"

It it is to play only with A500 games, the Kick 1.3 and the early WB are enough, even the better choice for compatibility reasons, if you target high end Amiga, I mean A1200 with AGA and with a nice WB then the 3.1, the 3.1.4 (both customized for instance) or the 3.9 make all sense, and all 3 solutions work fine of course.Īros for me is not an option for the Mister I do not say it won't work, I do not know as I never tried it on the mister but I've a doubt the current core can digest it, anyway I see Aros as an OS more for (fast) PC and ok, also for the vampire which has a 68080 "simulated processor" which is quite fast (like a 68060 running at about 100mhz + RTG) Hello my point of view, the OS choice is really depending of what you want to do with your Mister (Amiga core in this case). which os do you use with Mister? Amigaos 4.1? 3.9? Or the new 3.1.4?
